Skills Clinic: For those athletes who need to sharpen or learn one of the three disciplines of triathlon. Attend a swim clinic, a bike clinic, a run clinic to focus on the sports discipline where you need improvement. Emphasis is on technique training. Example: Open water swim clinic demonstrates the free style stroke but in open water, you might practice swim starts as a group so you can experience slight contact in a safe situation, and you learn about all of the different equipment or apparel choices for race day.
- Team Training for the Danskin Women's Triathlon
- What is Heart Zones Training?
- This is a branded and propriotary training system developed by Sally Edwards. Sally has authored over twenty books on fitness, training, triathlons, and weight loss. The training system uses the heart and a heart rate monitor to keep you in the right training zone. A zone is the intensity or effort that you are experiencing when exercising with easy low zones and high, hot, hard zones. Training is by definition working out with a goal - in this case - finishing the DWTS by doing your best and with a smile. Read the free articles on the training system and test out the free workouts Return to top
- Who created the Heart Zones Official Training Programs for the DWTS?
- Sally Edwards is one of the original participants in the DWTS. The Series is in its 19th consecutive year with Sally as the Official Spokeswoman for the Series. She's never missed a DWTS race in all of those years. Her finishing streak is now more than 118 finishes. Sally is the founder of the Official Training Programs and she designed them. She holds graduate degrees in exercise science and business, and is a former Ironman world record holder. Return to top
- What is the number one reason to sign up for an Official Training Program of the DWTS?
- Everyone has a different reason. There is no one reason for everyone just as there is no single training plan for everyone. We all need to have our individual fitness needs met in a time and energy efficient manner. That's what the training programs provide: the best training plan that fits you in a team or individual way. Return to top
- What if I have to miss a few team workouts or meetings?
- We all have busy lives and we know that happens. But, heads up, we are going to help you make as many workouts as possible by keeping you on track. If accountability is an issue for you staying on a training program, then sign up for My Coach or Team Training.. Return to top
- What else do I get for my official training program registration fees?
- That depends on the program that you register for - there are five different programs. Our premier and top level programs are "My Coach" and "Team Training." You receive individual help and support with each of these programs. Return to top
- I missed the deadline to register for the race, can I still do the DWTS?
- Absolutely. We have arranged with DWTS to "hold" you a race number so you are assured an entry into the DWTS of your choice if you register for My Coach or Team Training. Return to top
- Is there a refund policy if I have a problem?
- Yes. We refund you all of your money except for a 10% processing fee. Return to top
- I haven't trained in the past - oh 5 years... well maybe 10 years... well maybe never. Can I still join the programs?
- You are perfect for the Official Training Programs. The Level 1 program is designed for "first timers who want to get fit and fitter." On some teams, we also offer Level 2 for those already in shape or who have experience in the sport of triathlon. Return to top
- I don't have any training partners. Can you help me?
- By joining the team, you now have a team full of women who want to train with you, to encourage and motivate you, to be there as your buddy. This is one of the best reasons to register for Heart Zones Team Training. Return to top
- I have a friend who has done a triathlon. Why can't I just do what she says?
- You might prefer a quality program with professional certified coaches who have experience with all levels of triathletes. Also, you get to follow a training plan that is designed for you and fits your fitness level. The program has been successfully used by thousands of DWTS finishers for the past 8 years. Return to top
- I train because I want to have fun and not to sweat. Does that happen?
- This is not boot camp - guaranteed. All of the training programs are positive, individualized, specific to your goals and needs (such a having fun), and are safe. Sweat if you want or don't sweat if you don't - that's the power of using the Heart Zones Training system because it uses a heart rate monitor and you train in the zones. Return to top
- I am 65 years old and I don't want to be outdone by younger gals. Will that happen to me?
- Age, size, fitness level, weight, skill, and conditioning have nothing to do with training for the DWTS with Heart Zones Official Training Programs. We have 19 year olds and 79 year old on the team - you can't be too young and you can't be too old to train to get in shape for a sprint-distance triathlon. Return to top
- Are there very many women who return to the training programs?
- After you finish the DWTS once, you get hooked. It's called ADA or Adult Onset of Athleticism. You are going to have so much pride, fun, joy, and as your body gets stronger and fitter, emotional and physical happiness, that you are going to say the following four empowering words: “I am a triathlete.” Return to top
- I am a little scared. Can I come to the first workout (practice) and if I don't think it works, can you give me a refund.
- Absolutely. If, after the first workout, you aren't comfortable, we'll give you a 100% refund - guaranteed. The program is so successful and the coaches are so great - this rarely happens. Return to top
- I can only come on Saturdays or Sundays for the team workouts - what can I do?
- Contact your coach directly. She'll make it work for you on those days. Return to top
- I went to register and the team was already full. What do I do?
- We regret that for safety and quality coaching, we have to limit the number of participants on each team. But, don't let that discourage you. There are four other Heart Zones Official Training Programs that you can train with - and I'd recommend as our best alternative to team training is “My Coach”. Return to top
- I don't know how to swim. Can you teach me how?
- Yes, we not only can help you learn to swim, we recommend that you get special assistance with your swimming through a Heart Zones DWTS Swim Clinic held in most DWTS areas. These swim clinics are only 2-4 hours so we can't "teach" you to swim in that brief time, but we can give you direction on swim programs and swim coaches who can help you. However, we urge you to start now and take swim lessons at your club or community fitness centers. The more swimming experience you get the earlier the better you perform. Return to top
- I don't know how to bike. Can you teach me how?
- During your training with the Heart Zones Official Training programs for the DWTS, you learn two major training objectives: skill training (swimming, cycling, and running techniques) and cardio-training (using your heart rate monitor in the zones for endurance). Your skill training teaches you how to ride safely following the rules of the road. A bike clinic is perfect for you as a safety refresher. It also gives you everything you need to work on to become a competent cyclist in a group situation.. Return to top
- Can I contact the Head Coach before I register?
- Yes, if you email our National Director, Renee Schneidewind at renee@maxmultisport.com She'll provide you the contact information for the coaches for the team, clinic, or camp that is nearby. Return to top
- There are other training companies and programs in my area. Why do I want to train with yours?
- As the Official Training Program for the DWTS, most of your coaching and training is done by women, for women, with women, with an emphasis on safety, fun, and learning how to train. There is no other program that follows the three “F's” in training like we do: fun, fitness, and friends. Most training programs focus on your "performance" measuring how fast you can race and getting you on the winner's podium. Our emphasis is to get you to the starting line knowing everything, experiencing everything that you need to before the race begins.. Return to top
- I need help. Period. I need support. Period. How do you do this?
- Our company, Heart Zones USA, and our programs have helped thousands of women finish the DWTS. Every single one of our athletes has finished in front of our company's CEO, Sally Edwards. That's because Heart Zones USA is run by a very special woman, Sally Edwards who volunteers to finish last, dead last. That's support. That's help. Your whole team or training group will cheer you as you cross the finish line, and you can celebrate in your own finisher tent near the finish line that is just for those participating in The Official Training Programs of the DWTS. The Official Training Programs provide you with every advantage to do your best. Heart Zones Official Training Programs is the way to prepare for the Danskin Women's Triathlon because it is all about you and your success. Return to top
